Christ the King
Collect: The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when
I will raise up for David a righteous branch, and he shall
reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and
righteousness in the land. In his days, Judah will be saved
and Israel will live in safety. And this is the name by which
he will be called: “The Lord is our righteousness.” Amen.
From the desk of the minister: We will remember them…
As we come to the last Sunday of the Christian Calendar, it is appropriate to
mark the end of our Christian Calendar, and our journey through-out the year.
It is also appropriate to anticipate the beginning of the New Season of Advent,
the first season of our Christian Calendar.
Today, we mark this as a Memorial Day for our love ones who have gone
before us. We will remember them as we move on with our lives.
Today we stop the busy-ness and frantic activity that seems to be part of our
normal routines, to remember the good times, to remember special qualities
of unique people. To celebrate life and love in all its goodness.
We gather here today to remember those whom we will always love, but
who have died; who are no longer with us; to remember relationships that
are broken and dreams that are no longer whole.
While we hear the word of the scriptures today, you are invited to reflect and
remember your love ones – and then to find the strength and courage to move
on into the Christmas period and beyond.
When the people of Israel have been in exile, they are promised a new
shepherd who will gather them all in to the love of God and no-one will be
left out.
That new shepherd is the righteous Branch, a King who will reign
wisely and do what is just and right in the land.
This is the name by which he will be called:
The Lord Our Righteous Saviour.
